I will be sharing my journey with the software with you on this blog post… It doesn’t cost you anymore but I get a teeny weeny percentage. If you cannot wait (like me!) and want to take the plunge then you can support my site by clicking on the itunes affiliate links below to download them. It’s always best to let others try things first, especially version 1 of anything and certainly from first impressions it has a lot missing that is needed! So don’t rush to buy it just yet!! Read my short blog post and check out some other reviews… Personally I would hold off for a little bit until myself and others have given it the once over. You cannot open old FCP projects in it, although you can import imovie projects! Eek! None of my plugs work too… Don’t like it? Does not do what you want then run FCP 7 until it does.

This is great which does make the whole jumping to FCP X not the jumping without a parachute which it could be.

You can have both X and Pro 7 installed on the same computer, just not open at the same time. FCP X is a different beast at a different price point but is replacing Final Cut 7 which has been my editing platform of choice for 5 years. Only time will tell if it is good or bad!ĬS5.5 is mind blowingly good! The link with After Effects is terrific. CS5.5 just required me to adjust my thinking to a slightly different way. Let me know how you get on with them in comments below.Īs I am currently learning CS5.5 I guess I will be learning two new editing systems concurrently. I am currently downloading FCP X… £179.99 in the UK app store ($299.99) for FCP X, £29.99 for Motion 5 and same for Compressor (i don’t know what is new in this version of Compressor) The reason I have left the post like this as it will read like you have done what I have just done so when you do download it (if you do then this is your comfort blanket in that you were not alone!) So enjoy the ride! I contradict myself from things I said earlier later in the post. it just seems to me that it should be possible in Windows.Prepare for a very schizophrenic post here! This has been written in a linear time frame from downloading it to my thoughts as I use it. I will be getting a Mac and another Decklink and can use this for ProRes if that's the only way. It's touted as a fully cross-platform app, with Mac, Windows and Linux supported. The blurb at /au/products/decklink/mediaexpress says that Media Express capture 'supports uncompressed YUV and RGB QuickTime, AVI and DPX plus compressed ProRes, DVCPRO, MJPEG formats'. The Decklink specs at /au/products/decklink/techspecs say it supports (.) Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes (LT), Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) etc. How can I use Media Express to capture in ProRes MOV format on Windows? Or is ProRes capture a Mac-only thing? Now, I run Media Express again, expecting to see all the QT codecs that I can use for capture, but it's still just the 4 AVI ones. If I run the Speed Test, it's flying, and sure enough I can capture any of the above formats with no dropped frames (I'm using a Hi-8 camera as test source).īecause I want to capture to ProRes, I installed QuickTime v7.75 and verified that a ProRes MOV plays OK in QuickTime Player. When I run Media Express and go to Prefs, my project type is PAL, and I can capture in AVI 8-bit YUV, or 10-bit, or AVI Motion JPG, or DVX. I am only interested in capturing composite PAL at this time, so I have set the Blackmagic control panel for composite video / analog audio I/O, and default system is PAL.

I have just installed Decklink in an Intel based PC (Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 mobo, 16GB RAM, i5 processor, 4TB SATA drive).
